A Banterous Ode to Tablemat

Lines weaved left right overlapped
Generating a pattern for a tablemat
Its formulation stares at me as I type these words
Onto the screen as my eyes unravel worlds

The tablemat is envious that my fingers stroke the keyboard
Wonders why its only purpose is to keep tables from being scorched
Well mat, I didn’t invent you but I could give you a new function
How would you like to be placed under my computer’s power-button?

Would that give you a sense of ‘use’ and shut your helpless cries?
Would that response be considered as me trying to empathise?
I only ask because tablemat, I do not speak your tongue
And it is not because I have not tried… it’s because you don’t have one…

(Wrote an ode to a tablemat because it felt unappreciated
and in order for it to ‘learn’ graditiude
I ‘appreciated’ it through a thankful tribute)

Impulse Was His Weakness (Collaboration)

It was his only chance
He rushed towards the door
Impulse was his weakness
Thus he tripped onto the floor

Knowing who was knocking
He wanted to make an impression
Little did he realise he was bound
By a wheelchair and a confession

He picked himself up to get the door
To her surprise, this day she found
His confession was constrained
By her sentimental sound

With wails and tears she empathised
As her lover succumbed to the chair
A little girl tugged at her dress
And asked, “Is this man Daddy?” in despair.

Writing is Easy, Writing is Hard

Writing is easy when it comes from the heart
But from the mind is somewhat hard

To ‘feel’ is a constant state-of-being
To ‘think’ is to breathe while surviving reality

To ‘reflect’ is a path taken only by the wise
To ‘depict’ is a portrayal of reality analysed

To ‘write’ is to yield a paper and pen
To ‘type’ is to shield from our battles and demons

Writing is easy when it comes from the heart
But from the mind is somewhat hard

Words can tear apart but words can also mend
Words can be composed and also comprehended

Words can unite but sometimes divide
Words are up to the reader to decide

What do writers ‘do’ for ‘work’?
Writers ‘do work’ by working words.

Writing is easy when it comes from the heart
But from the mind is somewhat hard …

I just stumbled for a minute
Then came back to it

When it comes to format I am sometimes unsure
If I can accurately articulate my thoughts through words

Writing is a form of action and expression
With apt timing it is dialogue and communication

Writing is easy when it comes from the heart
But from the mind is somewhat hard

It is hard to describe a transformative experience
It is easy for the heart to yearn such experience

Writing is easy when it comes from the heart
But being mindful of format… is the hard yet fruitful part…

Work of Art

I have an eye for words
and an ear for music
I see colours of the rainbow
but not shadows on the streets
An artist, I am not,
but a creator, that I am
Yet you,
my dear,
are the only
work of art
I appreciate.

Vision

Sometimes it’s not about easing the way
It’s about readying it
~MG~

Vision
is not just about dreams or aspirations
Vision
is discernment and preparations
Vision
is not limited to eyesight
Vision
is seeing with the heart, soul, and mind
Vision
is not seeing flaws in everyone else
Vision
is seeing through one’s damaged self
Vision
is not focused on surface beauty
Vision
is breaking down the walls for clarity
Vision
is not excused supposition
Vision
is learning to destroy inhibitions
Vision
is not a fantasy nor memory
Vision
is embracing you in my reality.

Writing is Immortality

Writing is immortality. It is that flux between turning memories and fantasy into reality.

You get inspired, you fall in love with that feeling, you want to keep that spark alive, so you write. You write about what inspires you, you write about who inspires you. You write, and write, and write, until you realize the only thing surreal about what is written is that the encryptions are your reality transformed into the physical entity of writing.

There is a person behind the words.
There is a story within those words.
There is soul inside the poetry.
There is feeling in reality.

What is unwritten is only ever unfinished, and what is unfinished needs to be written. What needs to be written will be lived, and what was lived is thusly transcribed.

Write, darling, for it is your immortality.

I write, darling, for it is my immortality.

It is our immortality.

Write, darling, just write.

Until there is nothing left to say except the raw, wild, unfiltered, unencumbered, relentless, limitless feeling of what humans have come to call “inspiration”.

Write, darling, for it is immortality.

Just. Write.

A Love Affair

A poem I wrote back in 2007, the year I truly fell in love with the piano.
